eco-friendly personal care

personal care products are probably one of the last things we think about when it comes to making more eco-friendly choices; and there's a reason for that - it can be really tough to find alternatives!

we've compiled a list of products that are a good place to start.

  • floss - if everyone in the U.S. flosses their teeth according to ADA recommendations, every year our empty containers alone would fill a landfill the size of a football field that's 6 stories high - say what?! dental lace offers a zero waste alternative with floss made from mulberry silk and candelilla wax that comes in a small, refillable glass container. talk about small yet effective change!

  • switch to shampoo and conditioner bars - instead of the traditional plastic bottles, try out bars from your local maker that leave no waste behind

  • tampons - ladies, the sad (and gross) truth is those plastic applicators end up littering our beaches and waterways! test out brands that are applicator-free or even invest in a few pairs of period underwear - yes, you read that correctly. go one step further and purchase tampons from brands that avoid using chemicals and synthetic fragrances, such as lola. not only is this better for your health, but ultimately better for the environment as well

  • switch to brands that use glass bottles and natural ingredients - for those products you can't go zero waste with, opt for ones that come in glass bottles. chances are, the plastic packaging for typical face wash products and like are not recyclable at all.

take a moment to notice the ingredients in these products, as well - the European Union has banned over 1,200 questionable ingredients, most of which the FDA does not regulate in the personal care industry in the U.S. better ingredients for your health also mean better for the planet. affordable brands we love leading the way: s.w. basics and rms beauty
